1. Product Overview
When free air from atmospheric environment is compressed by an air compressor, the hazardous substances like moisture, dust, and oil mist are fed into the pneumatically operated equipment and instruments along with compressed air. Such a high-temperature, high-moisture and high-pressure air flow may cause serious corrosion and contamination inside the expensive pneumatically operated device, instruments and pipeline soon, not only affecting the product quality, but also resulting in equipment failure/fatal accident due to inaccuracy of the instruments and devices. Chemical fiber, printing, spray painting, mixing, pneumatic conveying, and pneumatic automated equipment are directly connected to the process tools for working procedures, so many industrial air sources shall be pure without any water, oil and dust. Therefore, it is essential to have the compressed air subjected to further purification treatment so that it may meet the production requirements, and compressed air drier supported by secondary filter can surely satisfy such requirements.
2. Structure and Working Principle
A secondary filter mainly consists of a filter element and a filter housing, and the latter may be divided into 2 basic types i.e. flange type and die casting aluminum type as per different structures (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The upstream compressed air enters into the filter element through the air inlet and the air vent in the upper end of the filter element (5). The filter element is composed of multiple layers of filter materials capable of different functions. The compressed air could be separated from moisture, dust, oil mist, and chemical substances with peculiar smell by means of interception, inertia, gravity force, diffusion and adsorption, etc. Pure compressed air reaches the downstream from the air outlet channel in the top housing through the filter element (5), and is continually fed into the pneumatically operated equipment. Th`e trapped hazardous substances like moisture, oil mist and dust are collected to the bottom of the lower housing (6) of the filter housing, and are discharge out of the machine through the valve that is automatically opened by the automatic drain trap when a certain volume is reached. The air inlet/outlet channels of filter housing are separated by baffle (2) and O-shaped rubber seal (3) of filter element. The filter housing is designed, manufactured and tested as per relevant technical standards for pressure vessel. Filter elements are a type of tubular parts composed of multi-layers of different materials, and may be divided into six basic types, named as HC, HT, HA, HF, HH and FC,

HA level (HF5 level) Micro oil mist filter
Characteristics:
● Internal elastic sponge has pre filtering function.
● The density, diameter and surface treatment of micro glass fiber with special design can filter 0.01μm solid particles and liquid particles.
● The external sponge layer absorbs and discharges the oil mist.
● The inner and outer filter elements are corrosion-resistant.
● Residual oil mist content 0.01PPm。
● Optional accessories: differential pressure gauge.
HF level (HF3 level) High efficiency ultra precision filter
Characteristics:
● The inner and outer filter elements are corrosion-resistant.
● Film coated closed sponge sleeve for pre filtration and air dispersion.
● The density of multi-layer rectangular composite glass fiber with special design can filter 0.01μm solid particles and liquid particles.
● Residual oil mist content 0.003PPm。
● Optional accessories: differential pressure gauge.
HH level (HF1 level) Deodorization filter
Characteristics:
● The inner and outer filter elements are corrosion-resistant.
● Most of the oil vapor is filtered by the extremely fine activated carbon powder stabilizing layer.
● Specially designed composite fiber medium is bonded with micro fine activated carbon powder to filter 0.01μm solid particles and liquid particles.
● The composite fiber layer prevents the displacement of activated carbon particles, and the outer coating closed sponge net cylinder prevents the migration of fibers.
● Under rated operating conditions, the design life is up to 2000 hours. The residual content of oil mist is 0.003ppm.
● Optional accessories: differential pressure gauge.

Operating principle of filter
The filter element is composed of fiber medium, filter screen, sponge and other materials. The solid and liquid particles (drops) in the compressed air are collected on the filter element surface (inside and outside) after being intercepted by the filter material. The liquid drops and impurities accumulated on the filter element surface are precipitated by gravity to the bottom of the filter and then discharged manually or automatically.
Filter grade
The classification of filter grade is based on the size of solid pollutant particles, the content of liquid water, and the content of oil droplets, oil mist, and oil vapor after the ISO8573 filter element treats compressed air.
Grades are divided according to filter element (different suppliers have different definitions of filter grade symbols, which are represented by C/T/A/H)
Main pipe filter
Class C main pipeline filter can remove a large amount of liquid and μ The minimum residual oil content of solid particles above m is only 5 ppm, with a small amount of water, dust and oil mist. Used for general protection after air compressor and rear cooler and before other filters; It is used as a pretreatment device before the cold dryer.
Air line filter
Level T air pipe filter can filter down to 1 μ M of liquid and solid particles, reaching the minimum residual oil content of only 0.5 ppm, with trace moisture, dust and oil mist. Used for pre-treatment before Class A filter; After the cold dryer and the suction dryer, further improve the air quality.
Ultra high efficiency oil removal filter
Grade A ultra high efficiency oil removal filter can filter down to 0.01 μ M of liquid and solid particles, the minimum residual oil content is only 0.01 ppm, and almost all water, dust and oil have been removed. It is used for protection before Class H filter and suction dryer, and it is used to ensure that there is no oil in the air after the cold dryer.
Activated carbon filter
H Activated carbon filter can filter down to 0.01 μ M of oil mist and hydrocarbon, reaching the minimum residual oil content of 0.003ppm, free of water, dust and oil, odorless and tasteless. It serves as the final filter for enterprises that must use high-quality compressed air, such as food industry, respiration, aseptic packaging, etc.
Precautions for filter installation
(1) The working pressure shall not exceed the maximum pressure indicated on the filter;
(2) The filter shall be installed behind the aftercooler and air tank as close as possible to the point of use and the lowest temperature.
(3) The filter shall not be installed behind the quick opening valve and shall prevent backflow and impact.
(4) The filter shall be installed vertically, and enough space shall be left below to replace the filter element.
(5) The larger filter shall be properly supported in the pipeline.
